Mexican Junior National Team Member Joins Bulldog Softball

STARKVILLE – Celeste Soliz, who spent the fall semester at Arizona State, has enrolled and begun classes at Mississippi State, head softball coach Samantha Ricketts announced on Wednesday.
Soliz, a catcher from Fairview, Texas, spent her summer playing with the Mexican U17 National Team in the WBSC World Softball Cup where she collected four hits and scored four runs. Mexico finished seventh in the tournament.
"We are excited to add Celeste to our roster," Ricketts said. "She will provide us with depth behind the plate and in the outfield as well as being another left-handed bat for our offense. Her work ethic and desire to push herself and her teammates will help her to jump right in with this year's team."
A four-year starter at Lovejoy High School, Soliz graduated with 662 career innings behind the plate, which broke a school record. She led her team to the playoffs all four years and boasted a .444 career batting average with 93 total RBIs.
Off the field, she was a four-time NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete and earned Academic All-District honors all four years. In addition to being a National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society member, Soliz also earned awards in computer science and math.
