Football Student-Athletes Take Part in Job Search Strategies Workshop

STARKVILLE – Members of the Mississippi State football team participated in a job search strategies interactive workshop Monday evening, focusing on personal and professional development as part of MSU's Student-Athlete Development program.
MSU launched its re-branded Student-Athlete Development program last September. Monday night's workshop was one of many year-long initiatives geared toward the holistic growth of Bulldog student-athletes.
"This program is part of our Life After Sport Initiative (LASI): Professional Development series," said Ben Rodriguez, Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development. "The goal is to help them prepare for a more seamless transition to a world post athletics. We aimed to accomplish this through two different lenses: as a professional athlete and as a professional outside of playing. The lessons learned during this conversation are easily applicable across the board and the student-athletes in attendance did a great job of critically thinking about the next steps in their lives."
Rodriguez's 12-point interactive plan stressed the following geared toward senior student-athletes landing their first career opportunity after college:

- Seeking professional help through the student-athlete development office and other agencies

- Cleaning up social media profiles and platforms
- Being persistent
