STARKVILLE -- Graduate transfer Scott Lashley, a former consensus four-star offensive lineman out of West Point High School, has enrolled at Mississippi State and will participate in spring practice, head coach Mike Leach announced Friday. Â Â
"We are excited to welcome Scott to Mississippi State," Leach said. "A West Point native, Scott understands what Bulldog football is all about. He brings experience to our offensive line, and we look forward to him coming in and competing right away."
Lashley, who originally signed with Alabama in 2016, played the 2017-19 seasons with the Crimson Tide. The 6-foot-7, 307-pound tackle saw action in 19 career games and redshirted as a true freshman in 2016. He served as Alabama's backup right tackle in 2019, tallying 58 snaps and playing in eight games on the year. He played in eight games in 2018 and three games as a redshirt freshman in 2017.
Lashley is immediately eligible to compete and has one year of remaining eligibility. He earned his undergraduate degree in human environmental science from Alabama in December. Â Â
Lashley was one of the top 200 overall prospects in the nation coming out of West Point in 2016. He ranked No. 141 overall by 247Sports and was rated as the No. 16 offensive tackle nationally and the No. 8 player in Mississippi. ESPN tabbed him as the No. 140 overall player in the country, the No. 5 player in Mississippi and the No. 15 offensive tackle in 2016. A first team MaxPreps.com Medium School All-American and Class 5A all-state selection, Lashley played for head coach Chris Chambless at West Point.
