STARKVILLE – Chris Jones is Super Bowl bound. The former Mississippi State defensive lineman won the AFC Championship with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.
Jones is joined by Martinas Rankin (injured reserve) and Braxton Hoyett (practice squad) on the Chiefs roster. The trio mark the 11th time in the last 13 years that a former Bulldog has earned a trip to the Super Bowl. Most recently, Fletcher Cox played in and won Super Bowl LII with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jones was Kansas City's top-graded pass rusher in a 35-24 victory that eliminated fellow former Bulldog Jeffery Simmons and the Tennessee Titans. Jones totaled five pressures with a 73.4 pass rush grade.
Four Bulldogs played for the Green Bay Packers in Sunday's NFC Championship game. Hunter Bradley, Elgton Jenkins, Will Redmond and Preston Smith all saw game action. Jenkins played every snap at left guard.
The Chiefs will meet the San Francisco 49ers in Miami, Florida, on Feb. 2 in Super Bowl LIV. The game will air on FOX.
