ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Mississippi State women's golf team will tee off its 2019-20 season this weekend as the Bulldogs venture to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to compete in the 41st annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational on Sept. 9-10.
Â
This will give head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm the opportunity to return to the 6,317-yard, par-72 New Mexico Golf Course, where she competed at during the 1988 NCAA Championship. The solid field at the invitational will be a great way to start the season for the young MSU squad, which features three underclassmen and two juniors competing this weekend.
Â
"Once again, I have the privilege of leading this team, an honor that I do not take for granted," Brown-Lemm said. "As I begin my 10th year as head coach, the talent and commitment that these young ladies possess continues to inspire me. Their strong work ethic and dedication to their craft improves with each freshmen class."
Â
The Bulldogs' lineup for the event is Aubree Jones, Clara Moyano, Blair Stockett, Ashley Gilliam and Lauren Miller, while Ally Williams will be competing as an individual. State will tee off the opening two rounds Monday with a 9 a.m. CT start. MSU plays its final round on Tuesday.
Â
Mississippi State is one of 15 teams and two SEC squads in the field. Joining the Bulldogs will be UC Davis, Colorado State, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kent State, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Nevada, UNLV, New Mexico, Pepperdine and San Diego State. Live scoring is available for the invitational so fans can keep up with the results throughout the event.
Â
For the season, State will face a top-25 schedule, playing at courses across the country and in a variety of conditions. The squad will be tested with different grasses, altitudes and styles of design, taking them from Arizona to the Bahamas.
Â
"I feel strongly that these young women are going to rise to the challenge," coach Brown-Lemm said. "With the exception of two injuries, we are prepared to take on the events that we have committed to play."
