Football Makes Coaches Poll Debut at No. 23 With 2-0 Start

STARKVILLE – A 2-0 start to the season – both by double-digits – has Mississippi State football into the Amway Coaches Poll at No. 23 this week.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 28-0 lead and beat Southern Miss, 38-15, on Saturday in Davis Wade Stadium. In the process, Joe Moorhead became the quickest MSU head coach to 10 on-field victories (15 games) since College Football Hall of Famer Darrell Royal did it in 15 games from 1954-55.
State, which has put up 38 points in each of its contests, has now been ranked in 20 out of the last 26 Coaches Polls dating back to Oct. 29, 2017. The Bulldogs finished the 2019 campaign No. 25 in the poll. State is receiving votes in the Associated Press Top 25.
MSU continues a three-game homestand when it hosts Kansas State at 11 a.m. Saturday on ESPN. The Wildcats will be the first Power 5 opponent to visit Starkville since Georgia Tech in 2009.
