Arop, McBride Advance for Rematch in Canadian Championship Final

DES MOINES, Iowa/MONTREAL – The upstart is back in the hunt once again.
Mississippi State's Marco Arop put up the fastest time in the 800m semifinals at the Athletics Canada Championships on Friday night, crossing the line in 1:48.96. Former Bulldog and 2016 Olympian Brandon McBride finished third, running 1:49.70.
Both won their heats and will compete in Saturday's final at 6:20 p.m. CT, setting up a rematch from last summer. The pair hold Canada's national indoor (Arop) and national outdoor (McBride) record in the event.
Last year, Arop claimed the national title, edging out McBride by 0.27 seconds. When the pair later lined up in Toronto representing their country at the NACAC Games, McBride came out ahead, but Arop claimed a silver medal in a 1-2 finish for the Canadians.
Meanwhile, Dejon Devroe competed in the 800m semifinals at the USATF Championships on Friday evening. Devroe clocked in at 1:50.16 to finish 14th.
The three Bulldogs have combined for a dozen All-American honors in their careers along with two NCAA titles and three NCAA silver medals.
