NORTHBROOK, Ill. – Mississippi State junior defensive end Kobe Jones is one of 137 student-athletes nominated for the 2019 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, the American Football Coaches Association announced this week.
The Good Works Team recognizes student-athletes for their dedication to community service and leadership on and off the football field.
Highlighting Jones' community service efforts, he has participated in the Red Kettle Campaign, benefitting the Salvation Army, and has brought smiles with children's hospital visits with his teammates during bowl week preparations. Jones has also participated in student-athlete convocation and given time back to Bulldog supporters at Fan Day.
The Starkville native has put an emphasis on giving back to his community and actively volunteers time to the Starkville Cowboys little league football and Starkville High School football programs. The two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member has attended elementary school pep rallies as a motivational speaker, educating the youth of the importance of academics and to share his testimony.
Earlier this year, Jones also represented MSU at the Black Student Athlete Summit in Austin, Texas.
On the field, Jones is a powerful end that is in line to be a starter on the defensive line this season. He has seen the field in 26 games on special teams and as a reserve defensive lineman. He enters his junior season with 40 total tackles, including 11.0 for loss and 1.0 sack. He has a forced fumble and has a recovered fumble to his credit.
The final 22-member Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is selected by a voting panel consisting of former team members and prominent media and will be announced on Sept. 12.
