Weatherspoon Lands with San Antonio Spurs

BROOKLYN, New York – After an illustrious career in Mississippi State's Maroon and White 100 miles northeast of his hometown of Canton, Quinndary Weatherspoon is headed to the Lone Star State.
The San Antonio Spurs selected Weatherspoon with the 49th pick during the second round of Thursday's NBA Draft at the Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets. He is the 25th player in program history to be chosen in MSU's NBA Draft history. Most recently, Arnett Moultrie was chosen with the 27th pick by the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft.
Weatherspoon is one of three players to amass over 2,000 career points in program history and climbed 15 spots on the scoring list from 18th place to third place during his senior season. He was a Jerry West Award Top 10 Finalist along with a United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District First-Team, a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District First-Team and a consensus All-SEC First-Team pick.
Weatherspoon also finished his MSU career among the program's top 10 in steals (201 – 3rd), field goals made (704 – 4th), free throws made (413 – 5th) and three-pointers made (187 – 7th). He secured double figures 105 times over his career highlighted by 32 games of 20-plus points. Weatherspoon and Jarvis Varnado (2009, 2010) are the only MSU players to capture consecutive Bailey Howell Trophies awarded to Mississippi's top collegiate player.
Mississippi State posted a 23-11 record last season and secured the program's 11th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Bulldogs have dialed up 48 victories over the last two seasons which is tied for second-most in program history over a two-year span and fourth among SEC schools during that span.
