STARKVILLE — Mississippi State junior Ela Grimwood was selected as a member of the Southeastern Conference Women's Golf Community Service Team, the league office announced Thursday.
This past year, Grimwood helped raise money as part of the Salvation Army bell ringing project around Starkville at local stores and also volunteered in the Special Olympics hosted by Mississippi State.
"I'd never really had the opportunity presented to me to do community service before coming to Mississippi State," said Grimwood. "The first time I took part in some here was a great experience. I had teammates who were very dedicated to it, and it helped me to develop a passion for helping others. The people of Starkville are such kind and generous people. I am glad I can be a small part of the work that helps people in a big way."
Also standing out in the classroom, Grimwood has been a President's Scholar for the last four semesters. She has a 4.0 GPA majoring in History and Psychology.
After competing in seven events this season for the Bulldogs, Grimwood recorded four top 25 finishes, with her best coming at the Westbrook Invitational where she tied for 11th.
