Bulldogs Open 2019 SEC Tournament Against Host Aggies

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Makings its 18th overall appearance in the SEC Tournament, the 12th-seeded Mississippi State softball (32-20; 9-15 SEC) will open the tournament against 13th-seeded Texas A&M (28-24, 6-18 SEC) for the second consecutive season as the Bulldogs face the host Aggies on Wednesday.
First pitch from Davis Diamond in College Station is set for 10 a.m. CT on the SEC Network. The opening game of the tournament will feature Adam Amin, Amanda Scarborough and Tiffany Greene on the call. Fans can also access the game online through WatchESPN or the ESPN app.
The winner of Wednesday's contest will be back in action later that night to face fifth-seeded Ole Miss at 8 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
Mississippi State and Texas A&M did not meet over the 2019 regular season. The last time the two teams tangled was in the opening game of the 2018 SEC Tournament in Columbia, Missouri. The Bulldogs knocked off the Aggies with a 2-0 upset, earning State's first victory in the tournament since 2005.
Wednesday marks the sixth straight and 18th overall appearance in the SEC Tournament for Mississippi State. MSU holds a 12-15 overall record in the tournament games.
The Bulldogs are led by a program-record three First Team All-SEC honorees as sophomore Mia Davidson, junior Fa Leilua and senior Kat Moore were tabbed to the team by the league's coaches.
Davidson leads all of Division I softball with 25 home runs this season, which is tied for the SEC's single-season record. She is the line SEC student-athlete to record at least 45 runs scored, 55 hits and 60 RBI this season.
Leilua ranks second in the conference and third nationally with 22 home runs to her credit. She led the Bulldogs with a .387 average and eight home runs through 24 SEC contests this season. Setting Mississippi State's senior home run record during the regular-season finale at No. 7/9 Florida, Moore is the third Bulldog to hit double-digit home runs this season. Seven of Moore's 11 home runs were knocked in conference play.
Freshman Anna Kate Segars rounded out Mississippi State's postseason accolades, earning a spot on SEC All-Freshman team.

- A program record three Bulldogs were honored as First Team All-SEC selections as sophomore Mia Davidson, junior Fa Leilua and senior Kat Moore all earn first-team laurels. Freshman Anna Kate Segars was also honored with a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team.
- In her eighth season at the helm of the Bulldogs, head coach Vann Stuedeman has collected 273 career wins and is now just 22 shy from tying the program record for most victories by a MSU head coach. For the seventh time over her eight seasons at the helm of MSU, Stuedeman has led the program to at least 30 wins.
- Senior Kat Moore slugged her 11th home run of the season on May 4 to set Mississippi State's senior record. Seven of her 11 homers were recording in conference play, which led all SEC outfielders.
- Sophomore Mia Davidson is the lone student-athlete in the SEC to record at least 45 runs scored, 55 hits and 60 RBI this season. She is tied for the SEC and NCAA lead in home runs with 25.
- Mississippi State closed the regular season with a total of 69 home runs, which set a new single-season program record.
- Slugging her 25th home run of the season on April 28 against Missouri, sophomore Mia Davidson holds Mississippi State's single-season record and is now tied for both the SEC single-season record and Mississippi State's career record with 44 career homers.
- Arizona and Mississippi State are the lone programs in all of Division I softball to have two student-athletes with 20+ home runs this season as both sophomore Mia Davidson (25) and junior Fa Leilua (22) rank first and third, respectively, in all of Division I softball.
