STARKVILLE – Mississippi State seniors JT Mackay and Kristy Terp have earned First-Team Academic All-District honors from CoSIDA, the organization announced on Tuesday. Mackay was a Third-Team Academic All-American last year.
The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.
"We had a really good academic year as a team with 15 student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA and over 60 kids on the Bulldog Honor Roll," interim head coach Chris Woods said. "This has been one of our best years in the classroom. Kristy and JT are a reflection of that, and I'm happy they're being recognized for their hard work."
Mackay boasts a 4.0 GPA in finance and was named a Stephen D. Lee scholar upon graduation in May. He is an eight-time President's List selection and two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. On top of competing during every weekend of the outdoor season, he was the director of MSU's investment challenge team.
Terp also maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her career while majoring in biological sciences on the pre-med track. She won the Newsom Award for track and field this year in addition to being a Stephen D. Lee Scholar. The Two Rivers, Wisconsin, native was also active in the community, serving as a tutor with Christian World Missions Youth Community Explosion throughout the spring semester.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 27.
