STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's nine medalists at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships have earned all-conference recognition, marking State's most podium finishes in a single year since 2003 (10).
Anderson Peters earned First Team All-SEC honors for the second straight year after leading an MSU sweep of the men's javelin podium. Peters is the first Bulldog man to successfully defend an SEC Championship since Garry Frank (shot put) did so in 1987.
The St. Andrews, Grenada, native broke his own meet record with a throw of 83.35m (273-6), which is the fourth-longest throw in the NCAA this year and No. 8 in collegiate history.
Eight MSU athletes earned second-team recognition. Curtis Thompson and Tyriq Horsford were second-team javelin selections. Thompson came just shy of a season-best, but his 77.88m (255-6) throw was the 12th-longest in the NCAA this year behind only Peters and his own mark.
Horsford threw a personal-best for the fourth straight meet with a mark of 72.62m (238-3). The two-time SEC Freshman of the Week was also the All-Freshman Team selection in the javelin.
Both Marco Arop and Charlotte Cayton-Smith earned Second Team All-SEC selections in the 800m. With their selections, the Bulldogs have had at least one athlete earn all-conference honors in the 800m in five of the last six years. Arop was the SEC Runner-Up for the second straight year.
Stephen Jones used a strong finish over the final jump in the 3000m steeplechase to narrowly take second in the event and earned second-team honors for his efforts. It is Jones' first SEC honor since he was All-Freshman team in the indoor 3000m in 2017.
Four-time All-American Rasheed Tatham clocked the No. 4 time in school history in the 400m hurdles while picking up a bronze medal to earn his first career all-conference honor. He was seeded 13th entering the competition.
Two graduate students in their fifth were Second Team All-SEC honorees in the field events. Logan Boss won bronze in the high jump after redshirting last season for her third all-conference honor. Three-time All-American Tiffany Flynn also returned from a redshirt year to break her own school record in the triple jump with a wind-aided leap of 13.87m (45-6.25). It was her first career SEC accolade.
