FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Ford Clegg continued to prove himself as one of the top freshmen golfers in the Southeastern Conference Sunday.
Shooting a 2-under 69 in the final round, Clegg earned his fifth top 15 finish of the season, placing tied for 13th at the Mason Rudolph Championship.
Clegg helped balance the Mississippi State men's golf team, which finished 12th out of 17 teams on the par-71, 7,100-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club course. MSU shot an 8-over par 860 for the weekend and a 4-over 288 on Sunday.
Clegg moved up six spots on the player leaderboard Sunday after shooting a weekend-best 4-under 67 the day before. In the final round, the freshman tallied four birdies on his way to his 2-under score.
Clegg's five top 15s rank second among SEC freshmen, as the Birmingham, Alabama native sits behind Georgia's Trent Phillips, who has seven. Five also ranks second for MSU, as Peng Pichaikool has six in the 2018-19 campaign.
The freshman has also put together six consecutive top 20 finishes with Sunday's result.
Senior Austin Rose also put in an under-par round Sunday, shooting a 1-under 70, his best 18 holes of the weekend.
Peng Pichaikool concluded the weekend as MSU's second-best finisher, with an even 213 three-round total.
Host Vanderbilt won the event with a 29-under 823. Western Kentucky's Billy Tom Sargent captured the individual crown, shooting 12-under par.
Mississippi State's focus turns to hosting the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship in just over one week. The two-day event on April 15-16 at Old Waverly Golf Club is the only chance to see the Golf Dawgs in action at home all season and will likely have implications on MSU's postseason destiny.

MSU men's golf coach Dusty Smith:
"I thought we did a better job battling today. The course played tougher today and I thought we handled it well for the most part. Ford played another huge round for us today when we needed it. Austin Rose did a great job fighting his way to a 70 by making a couple birdies coming in. I felt Peng was very solid all week. We are one score away from having a good week. At this level, everyone needs to show up if you want to be successful. We will get back to work this week making sure we are prepared mentally more than anything."
