Clegg, Pichaikool Move Into Top 20 Saturday
April 06, 2019 | Men's Golf
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Freshman Ford Clegg and junior Peng Pichaikool gave MSU much needed low scores in the middle round of the Mason Rudolph Championship Saturday.
Clegg only bogeyed once in round two as he carded a 4-under 67. Pichaikool tallied four birdies and an eagle on his way to a 68. Both players finished the second round 2-under par for the weekend and tied for 19th.
As a team, MSU shot two strokes better than it did Friday, but dropped a spot on the leaderboard into 13th. With Saturday's 1-over 285, the Bulldogs have shot a 4-over par total over the two days.
Clegg, Pichaikool and State have one more day to make a push up the standings as the Mason Rudolph concludes Sunday with 18 holes. Mississippi State will start final round play at 8:30 a.m. CT. Live results will be available via Golfstat.com.
Clegg went 2-under on both the front and back nine for the combined 4-under-par score. He only found trouble on the par-3 13th but bounced back with a birdie on the very next hole.
Pichaikool started his day with an eagle on one, only needing two strokes to finish the par-4 hole. Three birdies on his final four holes closed out a fine outing for the junior.
Host Vanderbilt leads the field at 15-under par through two rounds. Austin Kendziorski sits atop the player leaderboard at 11-under.

MSU men's golf coach Dusty Smith:
"I am really proud of Ford and Peng today. They played some big rounds for us when we really needed it. We are just playing very inconsistent right now, making too many mistakes and playing some undisciplined golf especially late in the round. I believe in this group and know we will be ready for another fight tomorrow."
