STARKVILLE – Mississippi State will send four members of its 2019 SEC Champion women's basketball team to Las Vegas in May for the USA Basketball Women's 3x3 National Championship.
Jessika Carter, Andra Espinoza-Hunter, Bre'Amber Scott and Myah Taylor will take the court on May 3-4 to represent the Bulldogs. MSU is one of 13 NCAA programs to be invited to the event, and the only SEC squad in the field.
State's youth will be on display as all four were sophomores or younger this season. Scott is the eldest of the Bulldogs at 20 years old.
Seven of the NCAA teams in the field advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament this year, and all made the field. Oregon is the defending USA Basketball 3x3 champion.
The National Championship will be held at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center and is free and open to the public. Play begins on Friday afternoon with preliminary round games that continue the following morning. Teams are then seeded based on their preliminary records, and the knockout rounds begin on Saturday afternoon.
The event will also serve as trials for the 2019 Pan America Games 3x3 team. This will be the first year that the Pan America Games include the discipline.
Played on a half court with a 10-minute clock, and a 12-second shot clock, 3x3 basketball has been a FIBA-sanctioned event since the 2010 Youth Olympic Games. The first team to 21 points, or the team in the lead at the end of regulation, is the winner. 3x3 makes its Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
