Mia Davidson inched one home run closer to setting Mississippi State's career record and the SEC's single-season record on Saturday.
Davidson’s Homer Helps Clinch Missouri Series Win

STARKVILLE – With the game locked at 3-3, a four-run fourth that featured a three-run bomb from sophomore Mia Davidson lifted Mississippi State softball (29-19, 6-14 SEC) to a 6-3 victory to clinch the series over Missouri (29-20, 10-10 SEC) Saturday at Nusz Park.
Senior Kat Moore put the Bulldogs up early with a two-run homer, but the Tigers used a couple solo home runs of their own to lock the game up at 2-2 heading into the fourth. With the bases loaded, the
Bulldogs plated four runs in the fourth with help of Davidson's 24th home run of her sophomore season.
The series victory marks the first time in program history that Mississippi State has won back-to-back SEC series against Missouri.
Moore led Mississippi State at the plate turning in the lone multi-hit performance of the game. The senior went 2-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI. Davidson's scored two runs of Saturday with her lone hit of the contest driving in three runs.
Tossing 4.1 innings in the start, left-hander Grace Fagan earned the victory to improve to 6-7 on the season. The freshman allowed five hits, including three solo home runs, with one walk and two strikeouts. Sophomore Emily Williams tossed 2.2 innings in relief to earn her fourth save of the year. The righty gave up just one hits and three walks while striking out two.
After back-to-back shutout innings by both starting pitchers, Mississippi State broke through in the bottom of the third with a two-out rally. A fielder's choice and a pop up erased senior Emily Heimberger's lead-off single up the middle to have one with two outs for Moore, who roped a home run to right center to plate the first runs of the game.
The Tigers answered in the top of the third as Hatti Moore and Kim Wert knocked back-to-back solo home runs to left field to lock the game up at 2-2.
State loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth after a single up the middle from senior Sarai Niu and walks issues to redshirt sophomore Montana Davidson and freshman Anna Kate Segars.
Missouri prevented one run to score, making the out at home to leave the bases loaded. Heimberger drove in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center field before Mia Davidson delivered the big blow with her three-run homer to left.
The Tigers would try to inch back into the game with a solo home run in the fifth from Kendyll Bailey but Fagan and Williams tag-teamed the Tigers to clinch State's first series win of the season.
The Bulldogs go for the series sweep on Sunday, April 28. First pitch on the SEC Network is set for 12 p.m. CT.
THUNDER INCHING CLOSER TO THREE BIG RECORDS
With her home run in the bottom of the fourth, Mia Davidson is inching closer to making major history.
The home run was the 24 of her sophomore season, which ties Georgia's Alisa Goler (2009) for third in SEC single-season history. Davidson is one home run away from tying Georgia's Alex Hugo (2014) and Alabama's Kelly Kretschman (1998) for the SEC single-season record.
Davidson now has 43 home runs over her Mississippi State career. She is one away from tying All-American Kellie Wilkerson (1999-02) for Mississippi State's career home run record.
Mia is also chasing another Wilkerson record as the sophomore now has 58 RBI to her credit this season, which stands third in single-season history. Wilkerson holds the program's record with 65 RBI in 1999.
