Jenkins Turns Dream Into Reality

NASHVILLE – One of the most versatile offensive linemen in Mississippi State history, Elgton Jenkins was drafted by Green Bay on Friday night as the 44th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
A native of Clarksdale, Mississippi, Jenkins became the Bulldogs' highest-drafted offensive lineman since Derek Sherrod was selected 32nd overall by the Packers in 2011. It's the third consecutive year State had an offensive lineman drafted. Justin Senior was selected in the sixth round by Seattle in 2017 and Martinas Rankin went in the third round to Houston last year.
"Coming out of high school, I wasn't highly recruited," Jenkins said. "Mississippi State took a chance on me, and I was going to grind to put myself in the position I am today.
"I'm going to come in and give it everything I got."
Jenkins' selection represents the first time since 1999-2001 that MSU produced three straight years of NFL Draft choices on the offensive line.

Jenkins has a total of 34 starts to his credit – 26 of them at center. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed only one sack over 762 pass-blocking snaps at center over the last two years.
"There is not a more versatile offensive lineman in the draft than Elgton Jenkins," MSU head coach Joe Moorhead said. "He was the eyes, ears and brains of our offense. He is physical and tough. He will have a very lengthy successful NFL career."
Jenkins was the recipient of the Kent Hull Trophy this season, awarded annually to the top offensive lineman in the state of Mississippi and earned first-team All-America honors from The Athletic and fourth-team honors from Phil Steele. He also was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll twice and earned his degree in industrial technology in December 2018.
