MSU to Host Be The Match Registry Drive this Weekend
February 21, 2019 | Football, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State Athletics, in conjunction with Bulldog Sports Properties and Be The Match, will host a bone marrow donor drive at Humphrey Coliseum during the men's basketball game Saturday and the women's basketball game Sunday, to add individuals to the national registry and increase the chances of finding a donor match for those awaiting a life-saving bone marrow transplant.
The drive is meaningful and timely as the Bulldog family comes together to support Mason Murphy, who is the son of MSU football student-athlete Marcus Murphy and Alicia Cherry and was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) last fall.
The men's team takes on South Carolina at 5 p.m. CT Saturday, and the women's team faces Vanderbilt at 1 p.m. CT Sunday.
On Saturday (3:30 p.m. – end of game) and Sunday (11:30 a.m. – end of game), volunteers will be set up along the Humphrey Coliseum concourse educating fans about the mission of Be The Match and assisting those interested in joining the registry in completing the short process.
If you are unable to attend either game but want to register, text to join: STATESAVES to 61474.
Be The Match manages the largest and most diverse bone marrow donor registry in the world, which includes more than 20 million potential donors who stand ready to be a live-saving bone-marrow donor. Marrow transplants can provide a cure for more than 70 different diseases, including leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell anemia.
