After a strong weekend in Chicago, two-time SEC Player of the Year Nuno Borges was named the SEC Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday.

STARKVILLE – Following a strong weekend in both singles and doubles at the 2019 ITA National Team Indoor Championship, Mississippi State's Nuno Borges has earned SEC Player of the Week honors.
The two-time reigning SEC Player of the Year and three-time All-American Borges posted a pair of top-30 singles wins, while he and Strahinja Rakic teamed up to clinch the doubles point against No. 15 TCU and No. 11 Notre Dame. This marks the third time in his career that Borges has been named the league's Player of the Week.
"I'm incredibly proud of Nuno," head coach Matt Roberts said. "He stepped up big for us in clutch moments all weekend and has played some great tennis. He's not only one of our best leaders on the court, but he's also become one of our most vocal leaders. I'm really excited for him, and for him to be recognized for his contributions to our team."
Against TCU on Feb. 15, Borges and Rakic captured the doubles point for MSU in exciting fashion, downing the Horned Frog duo of Alastair Gray and Alex Rybakov in a 7-6(5) thriller.
The next day, Borges notched a strong straight-set singles triumph against Baylor's No. 29 Johannes Schretter at the No. 1 singles position, upending Schretter 6-3, 6-3.
On State's final day of action in Chicago, Borges and Rakic pulled off their biggest win of the weekend, knocking off Notre Dame's ninth-ranked Richard Ciamarra and Tristan McCormick in an exciting 7-5 doubles-clinching victory. In singles, Borges continued his momentum from the previous day, ousting 18th-ranked Alex Lebedev in a quick 6-4, 6-4 decision.
With the remainder of this, his senior season, still left to play, Borges is tied for fourth all-time at State in singles victories (98), t3rd in dual match singles triumphs (63) and t4th in overall dual match wins (106).
Next Up For MSU …
Borges and the ninth-ranked Bulldogs will be back in action at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday against No. 21 Oklahoma in a neutral-site contest at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. The facility will also serve as the finals site of the 2019 NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championships.
