STARKVILLE – With Pro Bowl voting in full swing, several former Mississippi State athletes made their presence felt in Week 14 of NFL play, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Green Bay Packers linebacker Preston Smith applied plenty of pressure to boost his campaign on Sunday. In addition to a sack for a loss of five yards, Smith recorded three quarterback hits and produced five total pressures according to Pro Football Focus, which was tied for second in the league last week. Smith now ranks sixth in the NFL in both sacks (11.5) and sack yardage (86.0) this season.
In the same game, Elgton Jenkins allowed just one pressure while playing all 60 offensive snaps for the Packers, and Will Redmond was the team's top-graded special teams player according to Pro Football Focus.
Seattle Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright recorded five total tackles and has now posted five 100-tackle seasons in his career. That ranks second in Seahawks' franchise history, and Wright is tenth in the NFL in tackles this season.
Chris Jones climbed into the top 25 in the NFL in sack yardage after bringing down New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for a 10-yard loss. The Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle is tied for sixth in the NFL in total pressures (44) this season.
Offensively, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott became just the second player in franchise history to throw for 4,000 yards in a season. He ranks fifth in Cowboys' single-season history and leads the NFL with 4,122 passing yards this year.
