Â
ATLANTA – Jordan Danberry added another preseason honor to her list Wednesday, being tabbed to the 2020 Women's Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List, which is given to the nation's top player by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.
Â
Last season, Danberry ranked third on the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game and second in assists (125) and steals (65) after starting in all 36 games. The graduate guard scored double figures in 13 of 16 SEC games and averaged 14.3 points during conference play last season. She ranked eighth in the league with a 1.47 assist/turnover ratio.
Â
After earning an additional year of eligibility from the NCAA, Danberry immediately gave the Bulldogs a leader on a team the features seven newcomers and only two other returning upperclassmen. Last year, the Conway, Arkansas, native posted five performances of 20 or more points, including a career-high 26-point effort against the Razorbacks.
Â
Named preseason first team All-SEC by league coaches, Danberry scored 12 points in State's exhibition win against Lubbock Christian on Monday. She also added six steals and four rebounds.
Â
Danberry was one of 50 players to be named to the list. The midseason 30 team will be announced in early February, and then the competition will be narrowed down to 10 national semifinalists on March 3, 2020. Following those results, four finalists will be named on March 20, 2020, and the winner of the 2020 Citizen Naismith Trophy for Women's Player of the Year will be announced on April 4, 2020.
Â
Mississippi State will be back in action Saturday, as the Bulldogs host Southern Miss to open the 2019-20 campaign at Humphrey Coliseum at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on SEC Network +.
Â
With 14 opportunities to watch the Bulldogs in Humphrey Coliseum during the 2019-20 schedule, season tickets are $150 for 200 level side court reserved seats and general admission is $85.
