STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's soccer team has received the United Soccer Coaches' Team Academic Award for the second consecutive year.
The Bulldogs have now earned the award 10 times since its inception in 1996.
"This is tremendous recognition for the hard work the athletes put in and the academic support our players receive throughout the year," head coach James Armstrong said.
State's 3.34 cumulative grade-point average in the 2018-19 academic year ranked fifth in the SEC.
While earning their NCAA Tournament berth last season, the Bulldogs also posted a 3.42 GPA in the fall semester. Twenty student-athletes earned SEC Fall Honor Roll selections, second on campus only to football.
Ten Bulldogs posted 4.00 GPAs in the fall, and six did so in the spring. Four student-athletes achieved 4.00 GPAs in both semesters.
In the fall semester, MSU student-athletes combined produce a department's fall all-sport scholarship mark of 3.17, the highest on record. That semester also marked the third consecutive term with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
The Bulldogs will play at Alabama on Friday night. Kickoff in Tuscaloosa is set for 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
