October 27, 2019 | Women's Golf
PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS – Six Bulldogs are Bahama bound as Mississippi State competes in its final event of the fall season. The team will venture to Paradise Island, Bahamas, for the White Sands Invitational beginning Monday.
The three-day event will take place from October 28-30, rounding up a total of 54 holes. State will be competing on the par-72, 6,415 yard course for the first time.
The 13 teams will play one round each day from Monday through Wednesday. The field consists of host Houston along with Arkansas, Baylor, Clemson, New Mexico, North Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, SMU, Tennessee, Texas, and Tulane.
"It's a great golf course here in the Bahamas," head coach Brown-Lemm said. "It's no wonder that the LPGA hosted here for so many years. It's a great opportunity for our team to compete on this course and have this experience. I'm super proud of their efforts so far this fall and to be ranked No. 21 is a result of all of their hard work."
Leading the Bulldogs, freshman Ashley Gilliam is going into the event with back to back top-five finishes. After tying for third in the Magnolia Invitational, junior Blair Stockett has also earned a spot in the lineup.
Playing number three in the lineup is senior Clara Moyano, who has competed in all of the fall-season events, posting only top-20 finishes. A mainstay in the lineup is junior Aubree Jones, who enters the final fall tournament coming off of a top-25 finish in the Magnolia Invitational. Rounding things out in the fifth position of the lineup is freshman Abbey Daniel.
Sophomore Lauren Miller traveled to the Bahamas with the team to compete as an individual in the event.
Lemm-Brown and her team hope to compete fiercely in the White Sands Invitational coming off a second-place finish at their most recent event, moving them up in the rankings to No. 21 in the country.
Monday's opening round begins at 8 a.m., with all groups teeing off in a shotgun start. The Bulldogs begin play accompanied by Baylor and Clemson.
