STARKVILLE – Mississippi State Athletics continued its commitment to graduation excellence as the department scored an overall 88 percentile in the latest NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR), the organization announced on Wednesday.
It's the third consecutive cohort that MSU has posted an 88 percent or better in the NCAA GSR.
"Graduating our student-athletes with a meaningful degree is our ultimate mission," said Director of Athletics John Cohen. "Our years of sustained excellence in the NCAA Graduation Success Rate is a validation that our student-athletes continue to balance the demands of athletics and academics at a high standard."
Four Bulldog programs – men's and women's tennis, women's golf and softball -- earned perfect scores of 100. Three other teams registered scores of 90 or better, including soccer (95), men's track and field (92) and men's basketball (91).
A total of five MSU programs tied or exceeded their GSR all-time high -- women's golf, softball, men's and women's tennis and men's basketball.
Men's basketball's mark of 91 was the highest in program history, eight points above the national Division I sport average and the fifth-highest mark among SEC men's basketball programs.
The NCAA Graduation Success Rate is designed to show the proportion of student-athletes on any given team who earn a college degree. The report represents data from first-time freshmen, student-athletes who entered at midyear, and student-athletes who transferred into Mississippi State University between 2009 and 2012, but excludes student-athletes who transfer from the university in good academic standing.
