STARKVILLE – Eight former Mississippi State Bulldogs are on the active rosters of NFL playoff teams, which gets underway this weekend.
Wild Card Weekend beings on Saturday, Jan. 5 with all four teams in action featuring former Bulldog standouts on their rosters. Defensive end Denico Autry, a two-year letterwinner with the Bulldogs from 2012-13, kicks off wild card weekend when his Indianapolis Colts travel to Houston to take on the Texans at 3:35 p.m. CT on ESPN. The Texans squad features three State alumni in tight end Jordan Thomas, offensive lineman Martinas Rankin, and linebacker Benardrick McKinney. McKinney, one of Houston's leading tacklers, earned the first Pro Bowl selection of his career this season.
Veteran linebacker K.J. Wright just finished his ninth NFL regular season with the Seattle Seahawks. Wright and the Seahawks will travel to Dallas to face off against quarterback Dak Prescott Saturday at 7:15 p.m. on FOX. Prescott is coming off his third straight regular season of over 3,000 yards passing with a career high 3,885 yards for 22 touchdowns. He added six rushing scores this season with the Cowboys.
Wild Card action continues on Sunday, Jan. 6 as the Philadelphia Eagles and defensive lineman Fletcher Cox take on the Chicago Bears at 3:30 p.m. CT on NBC. Cox continues to be one of the most dominant lineman in the game, earning a Pro Bowl spot for the fourth straight season. Cox complied 46 tackles and a career-high 10.5 sacks this season.
Chris Jones' Kansas City Chiefs secured a bye and will host an opponent next Saturday. Jones turned in a record-breaking season, setting an NFL record by recording a sack in 11 consecutive contests. Jones closed the regular season with 15.5 total sacks, which ranked as the third most in the NFL behind only Aaron Donald (20.5) and J.J. Watt (16.0). Jones added 40 total tackles, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one interception, which he returned for a touchdown.
In addition, one former Bulldog, safety J.T. Gray, is on the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints, which also earned a first-round bye.
