STARKVILLE – Coming off a meteoric freshman campaign a season ago, Mississippi State softball catcher/third baseman Mia Davidson was tabbed to the Southeastern Conference's Preseason All-SEC Team, the league announced Thursday.
Davidson, the 2018 SEC Freshman of the Year, was one of only three rising sophomores to earn preseason laurels, joining Alabama's Kaylee Tow and Arkansas' Mary Haff.

She also ranked second in the conference in slugging percentage (.762) and total bases (144), seventh in runs scored (50), 10th in hits (70), 11th in batting average (.370) and doubles (13) and 12th in runs batted in (48). Behind the plate, Davidson caught 11 would-be base stealers, the fifth most in the conference.
Not only dominate within the SEC, Davidson's marks were some of the tops in the country as she closed the season ranked 11th nationally in home runs and total bases. Her marks for slugging percentage, total bases and RBIs were also all ranked within the seventh-highest totals in MSU single-season history.
Davidson wrapped her freshman season with 2018 All-SEC First Team and SEC All-Freshman Team honors. She was selected SEC Freshman of the Week a program-record three times last season.
Nationally she was a top 10 finalist for the 2018 Schutt Sports/NFCA National Freshman of the Year, the first student-athlete in program history to ever be a finalist for the award, and was tabbed to the NFCA All-South Region Second Team.
The 2019 SEC Softball Preseason Coaches' Poll was released last week as MSU was predicted to finish 10th in the league.
