Carri Wood Named SEC Legend

STARKVILLE – Former Mississippi State women's golf standout Carri Wood was named to the Southeastern Conference 2019 Class of Women's Legends, the league office announced Thursday.

During Wood's illustrious collegiate career from 1990-93, she captured four tournament titles and was a three-time All-American, three-time All-SEC selection and the 1992 SEC individual champion. She is one of only three women's golfers in school history to be named to the All-SEC first team in back-to-back years.

Wood, whose four individual titles rank No. 3 in MSU history, also made back-to-back NCAA Championships in 1991 and 1992. She found a spot in the Bulldog record book in multiple places. Most notably, she holds the ninth all-time best stroke average in school history with a 76.20.

Following her MSU career, Wood turned professional in August 1993 and played until 2012.

She qualified for the Tour in 1993 by tying for 43rd at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament. From 1995-97, she competed on the Futures Tour, and in 1995, competed on the Asian Tour.

Wood finished tied for 18th in the Sybase Big Apple Classic in 2001 before turning in a career-low 66 in 2002 during the first round of the Kellogg-Keebler Classic.

In 2005, Wood earned her best finish of the season at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic, where she tied for 12th and also shot her first LPGA career hole-in-one during the third round. Two years later, she posted a career-best tie for third at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic, where she carded a season-low 68 in the opening round.

Wood played in one event in 2012 before closing out her professional career.

The SEC 2019 Class of Women's Legends showcases former student-athletes, coaches and administrators from all 14 SEC member institutions.

The class will be honored at the 2019 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament, March 6-10 in Greenville, S.C. Each legend will be honored during half-time of their teams first game of the tournament, all 14 individuals will also be honored as a group, as well as participate in an autograph session during the tournament. Complimentary posters of the Legends will be available at the session.
