MSU Launches College Vault Vintage-Inspired Merchandise Collection
August 24, 2018 | Athletics
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State, working in conjunction with IMG College Licensing, announced Friday the launch of the University's first-ever College Vault merchandise collection, which will take place in conjunction with this weekend's Fan Day.
The College Vault is a vintage-inspired merchandise program that pays homage to the University's historical trademarks and traditions through fashion-forward apparel and non-apparel products. In an effort to meet fan demand, MSU has brought back three vintage logos for the launch of the collection, including Walking Bully – a fan-favorite from the early 70's; the Bully Flying Flag – a vintage mark formerly used by both athletics and the university; and the Flying M – a mark used in the 1960s and 70s to reinforce MSU's strong connection to the space program and the success in producing engineering talent.
"For several years, fans and retailers have asked us to bring back some of the old marks, but in an effort to avoid confusion that these old marks would be replacing our current, nationally-recognized logos, we wanted to be strategic in our plan to allow the marks to be used again," said Rhett Hobart, Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Branding. "The College Vault Collection allows us to bring back these vintage marks that represent our strong history in a trendy, stylish program that is clearly differentiated in the marketplace."
The University's Licensing Office and Athletic Department have collaborated on the program, which is being promoted as "Old Dawg. New Style." The new College Vault Collection will officially launch Saturday at Fan Day from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Palmeiro Center. There will be a College Vault experience for fans to interact with that includes the Cowbell Cruiser branded with the College Vault marks and a Walking Bulldog Snapchat filter.
"We are excited to work with Mississippi State to deliver unique vintage-branded merchandise to Bulldog fans," Nicole Armentrout, IMG College Licensing's VP of Marketing. "The College Vault collection was established to give Mississippi State an avenue to properly merchandise its historic logos, which have deep meaning for the fans, and help tell the story of the University and its successful athletic and academic programs."
Mississippi State College Vault merchandise is available at Barnes & Noble at Mississippi State, the HailStateStore.com online fan shop, and local retailers.
