Smith, Lee Set Personal Bests in Hammer at Crimson Tide Invitational
April 06, 2018 | Track & Field
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – On a rain-shortened afternoon, Mississippi State's hammer throwers opened the weekend's Crimson Tide Invitational.
Brianna Smith opened the day with a second-place finish and a personal-best throw of 61.43m (201-6) in the hammer, improving on her mark that is second in MSU history.
"That was a huge throw for her," assistant coach April Thomas said. "She's just off the school record, and I just hope she can duplicate that performance in a few weeks at SECs."
Her teammate Madelyn Lee also posted a personal best at 44.92m (147-4). Lee placed 16th. Tiffaney Johnson finished 14th with a throw of 46.67m (153-1).
The evening was cancelled due to heavy rains and lightning in the area. The invitational sections of the men's and women's 1500m will be run before the remainder of the 1500m sections that were originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon. That event will begin at 3:10 p.m. CT.
The 5000m races have been moved to Saturday morning with the men on the track at 9 a.m. and the women following at 9:30 a.m. The 10,000m races have been cancelled.
