I cannot say enough how proud I am of our National Coach of the Year Vic Schaefer, his entire staff, and the amazing young women of this team for their performance this year. They completed the only undefeated regular season the SEC has seen this millennium, and more than that, they did it in a way that honored the game and endeared them to a fan base who passionately cheered them on the whole way.
Â
What our women did this year will never be forgotten, and no amount of words I say in this space can properly describe how impressed by and how proud of them I am. We'll have news soon on how you can congratulate them in person, and until then, we will reminisce on a record-breaking season and look forward to many more remarkable seasons to come.
Â
Â
If you've been following, you know what an incredible season our men's tennis team is having. If you haven't been following, let me be the one to tell you that Coach Roberts and our men are having the best run this storied program has seen in decades. Our Bulldogs are up to No. 7 in the country (highest ranking since 1999), are 14-1, and are undefeated in SEC play at 8-0!
Â
With only a handful of matches left before the NCAA Tournament starts, we have our last home match of the regular season on Friday at 3 p.m. against Arkansas, and I would love to see a completely packed A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre to help them secure yet another win. College tennis is one of the most unique sports experiences around, and I'd encourage everyone to get on board with this tremendously successful team.
And while our men's team is on an incredible streak right now, our ladies haven't been too shabby either, having cracked the Top 25 a couple of times this spring. Currently ranked No. 32, our women's team (14-7, 5-5 SEC) hosts No. 31 Tennessee Thursday at 3 p.m. and No. 7 Georgia Saturday at 1 p.m. They are looking to earn a fourth-straight NCAA bid this season and need your support as well!
Â
Â
While Super Bulldog Weekend is on the horizon, we've got a huge weekend in town this week with so many teams in action. Our softball team is ranked in the Top 25 for the sixth-straight week as this very talented team continues to impress. Coach Stuedeman's Bulldogs host Texas A&M for a three-game series this weekend, with contests Friday night at 7:30, Saturday afternoon at 2 and again on Sunday afternoon at 2. In fact, we have four home games in the next week as we host Alcorn State on Tuesday night at 6.
Â
For baseball, we've got a big weekend on deck as we host Ole Miss at the New Dude for a key SEC series and spend the full week playing in big in-state matchups. We'll kick things off tonight at 6:30 against Southern University, then continue with our regular Friday Night Fireworks after Friday's 6:30 game against Ole Miss. We play again on Saturday afternoon at 2 and then finish up on Sunday at 1. I look forward to seeing everyone at the park!
Â
Â
As we continue to celebrate the achievements of our men's basketball team and the direction of the program under Coach Howland, I want to invite you to attend our annual end-of-the-year banquet this Saturday, April 7, at 11 a.m. on the floor of Humphrey Coliseum. Tickets are $20 and available here (registration closes Friday, April 5, at 5 p.m.).
Â
Meanwhile, as mentioned above, we are fast approaching Super Bulldog Weekend 2018 this April 20-22. Coach Moorhead has set a goal to break the attendance record for the spring football game, and we want to do everything we can to help make that a reality. As we get closer to the biggest weekend of the year at Mississippi State, make sure to visit www.hailstate.com/SBW for all information on times, parking, events and the like for SBW 2018.
Â
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals:
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this update. Â
Hail State!
