STARKVILLE, Miss. – Looking forward to the 2018-19 season, Mississippi State women's tennis head coach Daryl Greenan announced the addition of two highly-regarded prospects on Thursday, as Emmanouela Antonakis from Athens, Greece, and Tamara Racine-Beauchamp from Montreal, Canada, have signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Bulldog squad next fall.
Antonakis comes to Starkville as the top-ranked junior player in all of Greece for the past two years. She was a member of the 2018 Greek Federation Cup team. In 2017, she was the junior and women's national singles champion as well as the junior doubles champion. She has won four ITF junior singles crowns and one doubles title in Greece, Cyprus and Malta. She climbed the ITF world junior ranking to as high as No. 195 and is ranked 1212th in the ITF world women's singles rankings.
Racine-Beauchamp joins the squad as the U12, U16 and U18 Quebec provincial champion. She finished sixth in singles and third in doubles at the U18 Canadian National Championships. Over her career, she has won several ITF doubles titles and made an appearance in the doubles semifinals at an ITF 15k women's event. She has been ranked as high as No. 452 in the world junior rankings and is 1225th in the world women's doubles rankings.
"We are excited to welcome Emma and Tamara to our team and the Bulldog family," Greenan said. "They are both very talented players who we expect to make an immediate impact on our team. We are very impressed by these two both from a tennis and character perspective and feel confident they will fit in well."
Next Up For MSU…
The Bulldogs now wait to see where they will continue postseason play in the 2018 NCAA Team Championship. The selection show for this year's national championship field will be held Tuesday, May 1, at 4 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on NCAA.com. State is expected to receive an NCAA bid for a school-record fourth consecutive season and the eighth time in school history overall.
