Not only did we have over 1,500 people fill Nusz Park to capacity on Saturday, we set a record for the New Dude with over 10,000 on Saturday night, and that afternoon we made history with the biggest spring game crowd Davis Wade Stadium has ever seen! That was an impressive welcome for Coach Moorhead and an exciting teaser for the 2018 football season.
Â
My thanks go out not only to all of you who flew and drove in from all over, but also to all of those who spent their weekend working to put on so many events. To our athletic department staff, university staff, the city's staff and the people of Starkville's hotels and businesses who opened their doors to so many Bulldogs, thank you for everything you do to help create incredible weekends like these.
Â
Â
Monday night at The Mill Conference Center, we held our inaugural Maroon and White Night, a first-class event honoring our student-athletes and all of their many achievements in the 2017-18 athletic-academic year. It is important to me and important to our staff that everything we do be for the benefit of our student-athletes, and it was a joy to see them be able to dress up, walk the maroon carpet and be treated like the rock stars they all are.
Â
As part of the festivities, we honored award-winners in several categories, and I'd like to say congratulations to Victoria Vivians for being named Female Athlete of the Year and Nuno Borges for being named Male Athlete of the Year. Their accomplishments on their courts of play are unmatched, and their commitment to community service off the court is even more impressive and indicative of the great character they both possess. I'm proud to call both of them Bulldogs.

Â
For the second time in three weeks, our baseball team took down a Top-5 team at The Dude, this time an impressive 3-0 sweep of Arkansas on Super Bulldog Weekend. Then, the Diamond Dogs followed that stellar performance up with a thrilling 7-6 victory over No. 5 rival Ole Miss last night in the Governor's Cup in Pearl, their third win in four games against the Rebels this season!
As the race to the postseason continues, I'd love to see the same huge crowds we had this past weekend for both of our last two home series, starting this weekend as we host another Top 25 team in Starkville. We welcome Texas A&M to campus with games at 6:30 Friday, 6:30 Saturday and 3:30 Sunday. We'll have our regular Friday Night Fireworks after game one, and we hope to see the fireworks continue at the plate, too, after scoring 25 runs in our last four games. I'll see everyone at The Dude this weekend!
Â
Â
With our women's golf and women's tennis teams just back from SEC Tournament play, we send two more teams to the conference championships this weekend. Coach Smith and our men's golf team begin play today in Sea Island, Ga., for the SEC Championships, while Coach Roberts and our ninth-ranked men's tennis team play their first match of the SEC Championship - as the No.2 seed - this Friday in Tuscaloosa at Noon.
Â
Then our softball and track and field teams continue regular season play, starting tonight as Coach Stuedeman and the ladies of her No. 25 softball team travel to Troy to take on the Trojans. They'll be in Columbia this weekend as they play South Carolina. Our men's (ranked 16th nationally) and women's track teams, meanwhile, head off to Philadelphia for the prestigious Penn Relays, their final meet before the outdoor SEC Championships.
Â
Good luck to all of our Bulldogs across the country this weekend!
Â
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals:
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this update. Â
Hail State!
