Grimwood, Holt Lead Day Two of SEC Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Strong showings by Katie Holt and Ela Grimwood helped the Mississippi State women's golf team to a tenth-place finish following a windy day two of the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala.
Grimwood opened the round with a bogey but answered with consecutive birdies on Nos. 3 and 4 to wrap the front nine 2-over. After the turn, she carded another pair or birdies to finish the day with a 2-over 74 that tied her for 32nd.
After carding a 73 on Wednesday at the par-72, 6,253-yard Greystone Golf and Country Club, Holt fired a 76 during Thursday's second round to sit in a tie for 16th with a 149 two-round total. She quickly answered a bogey on her opening hole, draining birdies on Nos. 4 and 7 to wrap the front nine at 1-over. Holt found the going tough after the turn, but built some momentum heading into Friday, notching a birdie and three-straight pars to close her round.
"It was another solid day today out there," Holt said. "I think it progressively got tougher throughout the day. It got a little bit windier. The greens were rolling differently than yesterday and it was difficult to make putts. I putted well, but I didn't make as many as I think I could have. Overall, we had a better day today as a team and I think that we just have to keep pushing hard to make it to match play this weekend. Hail State."
The duo helped Coach Ginger Brown-Lemm's young squad shave three shots off its opening-round total and conclude the day with a 17-over 305. MSU enters Friday's final round of stroke play three shots back of the Top 8 with a 613 total.
Blair Stockett knocked off three strokes from her opening round, moving into a tie for 32nd with a 3-over 75 on Thursday.
Athena Yang carded an 80 to sit in a tie for 53rd, while Aubree Jones posted an 84 to wrap second-round play tied for 64th.
Friday's final stroke play round begins at 8:30 a.m.
