Mia Davidson Earns Third SEC Freshman of the Week Honor

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Behind another monster week at the plate, freshman Mia Davidson earned Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, her third weekly conference honor of the season, the league announced Tuesday.
She is the first Bulldog in program history to win three SEC Freshman of the Week honors over their debut season.
The honor comes after the Hillsborough, N.C., turned in another incredible performance at the plate. Davidson knocked a team-leading eight hits to hold a .727 batting average. She slugged one double and a team-high two home runs to slugging at a staggering 1.364 percentage over MSU's four-game slate.
She picked up five RBIs and scored six runs. The freshman also drew a team-high four walks, including two intentional walks, for a .800 on-base percentage.
Davidson, the only freshman in the squad to start all 44 games this season, is the lone Bulldog to record 35 or more hits, runs scored and RBIs this season, leading the team in all four categories. She has slugged an SEC-leading 15 home runs, which ranks tied for third in MSU single-season history.
The freshman opened the weekend 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs versus Alcorn State. She scored a career-high three runs in the outing. In her first taste of MSU's in-state rivalry with Ole Miss, Davidson went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Davidson followed the performance with a 2-for-3 night at the plate in the second game of the series, scoring a run. The freshman closed the weekend with a two-run home run in the series finale versus the Rebels to surpass Georgia's Alyssa DiCarlo for the SEC lead.
Mississippi State improved to 32-12 with a 6-9 record in SEC play after the three-win week on the diamond. The Bulldogs jump in both major polls, which were also released Tuesday, as MSU comes in at No. 19 in the NFCA/USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 22 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25.
Davidson and the Bulldogs return to action tonight with the final home midweek at Nusz Park as MSU welcomes Memphis for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch on the SEC Network +.
