MSU Travels To Texas For Second Spring Challenge
February 25, 2018 | Women's Golf
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Fresh off its spring opener, the UCF Challenge, where a trio of Bulldogs landed in the Top 25 of the event, the Mississippi State women's golf team travel to Houston, Texas, for the Dickson Invitational.
The University of Houston hosted event is slated for Feb. 26-27 at The Woodlands Country Club. The first and second rounds will be held on day one, with the final round being played on Tuesday. Both days are scheduled to be shotgun starts.
Coach Ginger Brown-Lemm will feature another young starting lineup this week, with freshmen Blair Stockett, who was named SEC Freshman of the Week after her performance in the UCF Challenge, in the No. 1 spot. Classmate Aubree Jones will take the second. Sophomores Ela Grimwood and Athena Yang will occupy the third and fourth spots, while veteran junior Katie Holt rounds out the lineup.
"These young ladies have worked so hard the past month," Brown-Lemm said. "We have focused on weaker areas from the UCF event, and have sharpened those areas up. Our first event in the back-to-back tournaments will be a 36/18 hosted by University of Houston at The Woodlands Country Club tournament course. Thirty-six holes in one day is something we don't normally play, but it is a great course and very competitive field. We are a physically and mentally strong squad, so we look forward to the challenge."
The strong field of 17 teams includes only one other SEC foe, Texas A&M.
Charlotte, Clemson, Florida State, Houston, Iowa State, Kent State, North Texas, SMU, Purdue, TCU, Texas Tech, Texas State, Tulsa, Troy, and UTSA make up the rest of the competition.
The Bulldogs look to play strong again this week with tee times set for 8 a.m. Follow the event live on golfstat.com.
