STARKVILLE, Miss. – After a stellar performance in her first appearance in the starting lineup, Mississippi State women's golfer Blair Stockett was named the Southeastern Conference's Freshman of the Week.
Stockett finished the UCF Challenge tied for 16th with a 4-over 220. Her best round came in round one, where the Jackson, Miss. native carded a career-low 1-under 71.
She also collected nine birdies in the event, the fourth-most of the 90 participants competing.
"This is such an awesome honor to receive to start off our spring season," Stockett said. "My teammates and I are constantly pushing each other to get better every day and that has really played a huge role in my improvement as a player this year."
Stockett is only the second Bulldog to receive this honor, as current TLPGA player Jessica Peng claimed the accolade in 2014.
Stockett and the rest of coach Ginger Brown-Lemm's squad return to the links Feb. 26-27 at the Dickson Invitational in Houston, Texas.
