Tiffany Flynn Earns SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week Honor
February 20, 2018 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State senior triple jumper Tiffany Flynn was named the Southeastern Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week the league announced on Tuesday.
Flynn jumped 13.26m (43-6.0) as the only woman in a combined men's and women's field at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, over the weekend. Her mark is fifth in the SEC and eighth in the NCAA this season.
"I am very proud of Tiffany," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "Obviously, she's the school record holder, so we knew what she was capable of, but it's good to see her reaching these distances ahead of the conference meet."
The senior from Ellenwood, Georgia, is the school record holder in the event, and this week's leap was still farther than the second-place athlete in MSU's record books. It was the fourth-best jump of her indoor career.
She is the third Bulldog to win the award since it began in 2000 and the first since her teammate Logan Boss did so on the opening weekend of the 2016 season.
Flynn and the No. 24 women's track and field program head to College Station, Texas, for the SEC Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25. Texas A&M's Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium will also host the NCAA Championships in March.
