STARKVILLE, Miss. – A battle between pitchers ended in favor of the Bulldogs on Thursday night as Mississippi State softball (4-0) walked away with a 3-0 victory over UT Martin (2-3) at Nusz Park.
Senior right-hander Cassady Knudsen and Skyhawk Caitlin Karo tossed three straight scoreless innings before the Bulldogs broke through in the fourth innings. Knudsen took a no-hitter into the seventh before giving up her lone hit of the contest. MSU has now tossed a program-record five straight shutouts to open the 2018 season.
SEC Freshman of the Week catcher/infielder Mia Davidson turned in another string performance as she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Davidson scored MSU's first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth, coming around to score on junior infielder Sarai Niu's single down the right field line.
Davidson's second hit of the contest came in the fifth inning as she slugged a two-out triple, the first of her career, to plate junior outfielder Kat Moore. Davidson would score her second run on the game on shortstop Reggie Harrison's first double of the season. Harrison would close the evening 2-for-3 for her first multi-hit outing of her senior season.
