With construction ongoing at the New Dude, our Bulldogs will spend much of the non-conference schedule on the road, affording us the opportunity to get creative in how we cheer them on and follow their successes in these first weeks of the season. When we play our home-opener on March 6, the first game ever played at the new Dudy Noble, I know the best fans in college baseball will be there in our usual great numbers to welcome the guys back to Starkville.
On that note, I have to give a big shout-out and thank you to our students who filled up the place last night for the biggest crowd in Cowbell Yell history. Great atmospheres start with you and we are consistently grateful for the support you show your fellow students every week.
This weekend in Starkville may very well be the biggest weekend of basketball to date this season for our men's and women's programs with key contests for each team in The Hump. Before those games, however, we wish both teams good luck at Vanderbilt during the midweek as Coach Howland's men play the Commodores tonight at 6 on the SEC Network and Coach Schaefer's women play them tomorrow night at 7:30, also on the SEC Network.
Once they return home, let's continue creating incredible basketball atmospheres for these teams who have earned our support. Our 18-7 men play rival Ole Miss Saturday night in what is an important game for our Bulldogs in this final stretch run as they make their case for a postseason appearance. We are very nearly sold out of tickets for the game, so if you haven't yet secured yours, visit www.hailstate.com/tickets or call the ticket office soon.
Then on Sunday, our No. 2 ladies host Texas A&M at 4 p.m. on ESPN2 in a game with championship implications, as each win gets our Bulldogs one step closer to possibly winning an outright SEC Title. That game is already sold out, so I have no doubt that we will have yet another incredible atmosphere in The Hump!
I should start this by giving yet another round of applause to senior pitcher Holly Ward and the entirety of our softball team after Holly threw a perfect game in the season-opener on Friday, only the second perfect game in program history. That's quite a way to begin the year. And with a 4-0 start last weekend, Coach Stuedeman's Bulldogs are rolling across the board. They'll be back this weekend for the annual February Freezer, welcoming Drake, South Alabama and Murray State to town for a round robin. We play at 3 and 5:30 Friday and then have another doubleheader at 1:30 and 4 on Saturday.
On Sunday, Coach Greenan and our 6-2 women's tennis team host Georgia State at noon, kicking off a fun day of athletics on campus. Our ladies are 4-0 at home this year, thanks in large part to your support at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. Let's keep the streak rolling and cheer them on again this weekend!
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals:
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this update.
Hail State!
