Stuedeman Adds North Carolina Native Desiree Lewis to 2019 Signing Class

STARKVILLE – Continuing the trend of North Carolina Lady Lightning Gold travel ball standouts turning into Mississippi State Bulldogs, head softball coach Vann Stuedeman announced the signing of shortstop Desiree Lewis.
"We are fortunate to get another standout from John Corn's Lady Lightning," Stuedeman said. "She is strong, athletic and softball savvy. I look forward to seeing her show off her glove skills on the dirt at Nusz Park this upcoming fall."
Lewis if the fifth member of the Lightning Gold to sign with the Bulldogs during the Stuedeman era, joining the ranks of Mia Davidson, Montana Davidson, Emily Heimberger and Calyn Adams.
"Two years ago, I visited Mississippi State for the first time, and I fell in love," Lewis said. "It was much like my home now. Once I interacted with the people, viewed the campus, and learned what it was like from the players themselves, I knew this would be my future home. I'm blessed to call Mississippi State my future home, and I am ready to finally be a Bulldog!"
The Mocksville, North Carolina, native has three varsity seasons at Davie County High School. Lewis did not see any action this past season, sitting out due to injury. She will return to the field in 2019 for her senior campaign.
As a sophomore, Lewis helped the War Eagles to a 22-5 record as Davie County finished ranked 21 in the state of North Carolina. Lewis held a .309 average at the plate and knocked six home runs en route to 25 RBIs. As a freshman, she helped Davie County to an 18-10 overall record as the team finished No. 31 in the state.
Lewis is a member of the Lady Lightning and helped John Corn's team to the 2018 Atlanta Legacy Championship.
Outside of softball, Lewis volunteers her time to various projects like KidFest Smart Start of Davie County.
Lewis is the daughter of Damian and Angie Lewis. She intends to major in biochemistry once enrolled at Mississippi State.
