MSU's student-athletes will compete in a scored intrasquad meet this weekend.
Track and Field to Host Intrasquad Meet this Weekend

STARKVILLE, Miss. – With temperatures dropping, Mississippi State's track and field program will get one last bit of work in on the outdoor track this weekend. The Bulldogs will hold an intrasquad meet on Friday and Saturday to close the fall semester of training.
The student-athletes have been divided into three teams, Maroon, White and Gray, and will compete against each other in a scored meet that will be open to fans. Coaches assigned athletes to primary events, but in a unique twist, the athletes met as teams on Monday to place each other in secondary events where they thought they could pick up some extra points.
The meet will use a 5-3-2-1 scoring format, with the relays being scored 5-3-1. Teams may not score more than twice in a single event. For example, if Maroon took first, second and third, the fourth-place athlete would be bumped up to third for scoring purposes and collect two points.
"This is a way we can practice winning," interim head coach Chris Woods said. "It's not something you can just wake up and do. There's a trophy to be won here. I expect every one of our kids to do everything they can within the rules to win that trophy for his or her team."
One male and one female athlete were named captains for each team. The Maroon squad is led by graduate Tiffany Flynn and senior Dejon Devroe. Sophomore Marco Arop will lead the Gray squad alongside junior Alexis Farley. The White team is captained by senior Vince Castillo and graduate Logan Boss.
The Bulldogs will contest field events on Friday beginning at 1:30 p.m. CT, with some surprising entries in the mix. For example, high jumper Reggie Miller, sprinter Lawrence Crawford and NCAA javelin champion Anderson Peters will attempt to score points in the shot put since there was originally just one athlete assigned to the event. Full team rosters and entries can be found on HailState.com.
Saturday's action kicks off at 11:30 a.m. with a 10-mile road race around campus. The final gun will fire at 3 p.m. for a mixed 4x400m with two men and two women running alternating legs for each team.
