Simmons, Jenkins Earn SEC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following Mississippi State's dominating victory over rival Ole Miss on Thanksgiving night, senior center Elgton Jenkins and junior defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons earned weekly accolades from the Southeastern Conference, the league office announced Monday.
Behind a monster performance in the regular-season finale, All-American candidate Jeffery Simmons earned SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for the third time in his career and the first time this season. Jenkins earned Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week, sharing the honor with Texas A&M's Erik McCoy. It is the second time this season that Jenkins has earned the laurel.
MSU's three SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors this season were the most since 2014 when Ben Beckwith won the honor three times. Simmons along with senior defensive end Montez Sweat combined to win SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week three times this season and eight times over their careers, which is the most by any defensive line duo in school history.
Simmons dominated Ole Miss, which entered Thursday's game with the fourth-best total offense in the country. The Macon, Mississippi, native finished with four tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one forced, one pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. His efforts earned a spot to the Pro Football Focus National Team of the Week.
Rounding out the regular season, Simmons tallied 14.5 tackles for loss this season, which led the Bulldog defense and ranked fourth in the SEC. His two tackles for loss against Ole Miss brought his career total to 30, which stands at seventh in MSU history.
Jenkins, who claimed the Kent Hull Trophy last week as the top offensive lineman in the state of Mississippi, earned the Bulldogs' top grade in a 35-3 win at Ole Miss. The Clarksdale, Mississippi, native collected two knockdowns and did not allow a sack or a pressure.
He paved the way for a Bulldog rushing attack that pounded out 309 yards on the ground. State finished with 420 yards of total offense, its highest output in a conference game this season.
The Bulldogs will learn of their bowl destination on the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 2.
