Abram, Calhoun Secure SEC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following Mississippi State's largest victory over Arkansas in program history, senior safety Johnathan Abram and senior offensive lineman Deion Calhoun earned weekly accolades from the Southeastern Conference, the league office announced Monday.
Turning in a career performance on his Senior Day, Abram was named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week with Kentucky's Josh Paschal. Abram is the first Bulldog to bring home the laurel since Richie Brown in 2015. The honor is the first of Abram's career. Calhoun also turned in a breakout performance in his final game at Davis Wade Stadium to earn the second SEC Offensive Lineman of his career.
Abram produced one of the best games every by a defensive back in State's 52-6 win over Arkansas. The Columbia, Mississippi, native recorded a career-best 12 tackles with seven solo stops, 1.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, two quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery during his final game at Davis Wade.
The senior safety became the first MSU player to record 10 or more tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss in a game since All-American linebacker Benardrick McKinney had a game-high 12 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss against UAB on Sept. 6, 2014.
According to Pro Football Focus, Abram's five quarterback pressures versus the Razorbacks were three more than any other SEC secondary player had in week 12. Abram and the Bulldog defense once again did not allow a touchdown at home to remain the SEC's top scoring defense, allowing just 12.8 points per game. Abram leads all SEC defensive backs in tackles with 89 this season.
Calhoun turned in one of the best games in his career in Saturday's victory over Arkansas. Calhoun was MSU's highest grader at 86 percent. The Pleasant Grove, Alabama, native registered two knockdowns and did not allow a sack. He anchored an offensive line that paved the way for a Bulldog offense that rushed for 287 yards.
According to Pro Football Focus, MSU gained 102 of its 287 rushing yards to either side of Calhoun on Saturday.
