Stuedeman Secures Eight Over Early Signing Period

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State softball landed one of the top recruiting classes in the nation during the early signing period as head coach Vann Stuedeman announced the Bulldog's 2019 signing class.
"We are excited to welcome these eight quality players to StarkVegas," said associate head coach Samantha Ricketts. "This class brings a great mix of power, speed, pitching, and athleticism. We expect them to compete from day one and can't wait to see them on the field in the Maroon and White!"
A total of eight student-athletes make up the 2019 signing class, which was ranked as high as seventh in the country by FloSoftball. Of the eight signees, three are individually ranked among the top 100 recruits in the country by FloSoftball. The signing class has combined for 10 high school state championships, one high school national championship and four travel ball national championships.
Aspen Wesley (Philadelphia, Mississippi) leads off State's signing class. A pitcher from top-ranked Neshoba Central High School, Wesley is ranked the 86th player in the country by FloSoftball. Wesley is a three-time Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year and was crowned an All-American by MaxPreps over the last three seasons. She also has helped Neshoba Central to five consecutive 5A State Championships, earning First Team All-State honors over all five championship runs.
Ranked No. 88 in FloSoftball's Top 100, Kiki Edwards (Woodbridge, Virginia) is an elite outfielder from Osbourn Park High School. Edwards led Osbourn Park to the 2016 6A State Championship as a freshman and has won back-to-back All-Region honors. Edwards also won the 16U IDT Championship and the 18U Triple Crown Nationals as a member of the Georgia East Cobb Bullets.
Rounding out MSU's ranked recruits is Paige Cook (Cornelia, Georgia), who signs as the No. 44 player in the country according to Extra Innings Softball and the No. 68 recruit in the country by FloSoftball. The third baseman/utility player from Habersham Central High Shool was tabbed a GADC All-State honoree. Cook has also brought home a 16U IDT Championship and 18U Triple Crown Nationals over her travel ball tenure.
Kenley Hawk (Palestine, Arkansas) is a versatile two-way player that saw time both in the outfield and in the pitching circle for Palestine-Wheatley High School. Hawk is a three-time All-State honoree and was ranked fifth in the nation with eight no hitters, according to MaxPreps. Hawk has over 650 career strikeouts and 12 shutouts to her credit. She is just as powerful at the plate with 18 home runs and over 100 RBI.
Brylie St. Clair (Sand Rock, Alabama) is a three-time All-State outfielder out of Sand Rock High School. St. Clair led the Wildcats to three consecutive championship games, winning the title over the 2016 season. A member of the Birmingham Thunderbolts Premier, St. Clair helped the Bolts to the 2018 16U Colorado Fireworks Power Pool Championship and the 2018 16U PGF Premier National Championship.
One of two Mississippi natives of the signing class, Aquana Brownlee (Houston, Mississippi) is a staple in both the infield and outfield for Houston High School. Brownlee is already use to success at Nusz Park as she led the Hilltoppers to the 2018 Mississippi 3A State Championship at Nusz earlier this spring. She was also selected as the Daily Journal's Player of the Year for Northeast Mississippi.
Madisyn Kennedy (Montgomery, Alabama) brings her championship caliber of success to the signing class. The shortstop/third baseman has led Macon East Academy to three state championships over her tenure. Kennedy has held a batting average over .460 over her last three seasons with the Knights and has recorded 266 hits over her career. Also a member of the Birmingham Thunderbolts, Kennedy as part of the 2018 16U PGF Premier National Championship squad.
A stud shortstop from Davie County High School, Desiree Lewis (Mocksville, North Carolina) is one of the top recruits from the Tar Heel State. Lewis held a .309 average with 25 RBI and six home runs over her sophomore season and is returning to the field for her senior campaign after being sidelined with injury over the 2018 season. A member of the NC Lady Lightning Gold, Lewis helped her travel squad win the 2018 Atlanta Legacy this summer.
