STARKVILLE -- Mississippi State Athletics continued its long-standing commitment to academic excellence with the fourth-highest NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) among Southeastern Conference institutions, the NCAA announced on Wednesday. Â
Bulldog athletic programs combined for an NCAA GSR of 89 percent, which is above the national Division I overall average. The score is a measure of the four-year cohort from 2008-11.
"Our student-athletes continue to set a standard of excellence in the classroom and achieve the ultimate goal of earning their degrees," MSU Director of Athletics John Cohen said. "Our outstanding NCAA Graduation Success Rate is a direct result of their hard work and the tremendous support they receive from their coaches, support staff and our Academic Center."
Four Bulldog programs – men's and women's tennis, women's golf and softball -- earned perfect scores of 100. Four other teams registered scores of 90 or better, including soccer (96), men's track and field (93), women's basketball (92) and men's golf (91).  Â
Nine programs exceeded the GSR national average in their respective sports -- men's track and field, football (83), men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, women's basketball, soccer and softball.
A total of six MSU programs tied or exceeded their GSR all-time high -- women's golf, men's track and field, softball, men's and women's tennis and soccer.
In addition, six Bulldog sports ranked in the top five of the SEC in their respective GSR scores -- women's golf (tied for first), men's tennis (tied for first), women's tennis (tied for first), softball (tied for first), men's track and field (third) and football (fifth).

The report represents data from first-time freshmen, student-athletes who entered at midyear, and student-athletes who transferred into Mississippi State University between 2008 and 2011, but excludes student-athletes who transfer from the university in good academic standing.
