Men’s Hoops Up to No. 17 in AP Top 25

STARKVILLE – A pair of double-digit home victories on opening weekend enabled the Mississippi State men's basketball team to advance to No. 17 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll released Monday.
The Bulldogs knocked off Austin Peay (95-67) and Hartford (77-59), a pair of teams who won 19 games apiece and appeared in the postseason a season ago.
Mississippi State is one of five SEC squads ranked inside the polls which include Tennessee (5), Auburn (9), Kentucky (10) and LSU (22).
Defensively, the Bulldogs have limited their opponents to 63.0 points per game over the weekend which ranks third on the SEC leaderboard.
Mississippi State has held the opposition to under 60 points on 24 occasions under fourth-year head coach Ben Howland, and the Bulldogs have won 23 of those 24 decisions.
Mississippi State concludes its three-game homestand and faces Long Beach State for its second regional round matchup of the MGM Resorts Main Event. Friday's tip time is set for 8 p.m. CT and will be televised by SEC Network.
The Mississippi State Athletics Ticket Office is selling season tickets for as low as $199. Fans can purchase tickets online at www.HailState.com/Hoops, in person at the MSU Athletics Ticket Office located at the Bryan Athletic Building or via the phone at (662) 325-2600. Information on single-game tickets and mini plans will be announced at a later date by the ticket office.
