Family has always been a big part of life for Mississippi State softball student-athlete Mia Davidson. Her family sacrificed a lot to help her become the person and player that she is today.
Â
"[My family] drove multiple hours to get to tournaments and even paid for plane tickets to go to California, just so I could play in front of college coaches," Davidson said.
Â
Her family committed countless hours to make sure their daughter had the best chance to be successful on the field, while continuing to instill life lessons.
Â
"[My parents] always made sure to [reinforce] the small things by teaching us life lessons, and making sure we were good people and doing the right thing."
Â
Davidson left her family in Hillsborough, North Carolina to become a part of the Mississippi State family. She shattered records and reached career highs as a freshman in 2018. Slowly she entered the hearts of all Bulldog families and fans across the nation.
Â
Choosing to play for State was not that difficult of a task, as her older sister, Montana, was already a member of the softball program. That played a big factor in her decision to commit to the Bulldogs.
Â
"We have always played together," said Davidson, "and always wanted to [play on the same team in college]. We found a college that wanted both of us and also one that we both wanted to go to, so Mississippi State was a perfect fit."
Â
As her freshman season progressed, she shined on the field. She was selected as SEC Freshman of the Year, first-team All-SEC, and SEC All-Freshman Team. When the season finished, Mia ended 2018 with 19 home runs, surpassing Lyhia McMichael (2003) for State's single season home run record.
Â
With all of the stress and attention coming her way throughout the year, it was nice to have Montana by her side.
Â
"Having her [Montana] here made everything so much easier," said Mia. "She was someone to vent to and the one person I could go to and trust to talk to all the time."
Â
As Mia looks to continue her success on and off the field, there is one thing that makes her smile. The idea of having her sister here for the next three years.
Â
"It is a very exciting thing for both of us," Mia said. "We've always enjoyed playing with each other, and now we get to finish together. It is a pretty cool experience and I think it's amazing how we both can be seniors together."
