Bulldog Women’s Golfers Shine In Amateur Tournaments

STARKVILLE, Miss. – While many were enjoying the holidays and the winter break, five Mississippi State women's golfers played in some top amateur events and represented the Bulldogs well with Top 20 finishes.
In mid-December, freshman Blair Stockett and junior Kendall Wisenbaker showcased their skills at the 87th annual Dixie Amateur in South Florida.
Wisenbaker got off to a strong start with an opening-round 1-under 71. After firing a 78 in round two, she bounced back in with an even-par third round and another 71 in the final round to finish 13th overall with a 4-over 292.
Stockett put together a 1-over 73 opening round and finished strong with a final-round 72 to finish 17th with a 9-over 297.
In a post-Christmas event, sophomores Athena Yang and Ela Grimwood along with junior teammate Katie Holt, played in the Orlando International Amateur. The event featured 56 of the top amateur players from all over the world. The Bulldog trio fared well, all finishing in the Top 11.
Grimwood avoided the cut line with a 3-under 69 in her second round and followed it with a final-day 73 to end the event with a 5-over 221 and tied for sixth place.
Holt used a strong final round to finish tied for ninth with a 7-over 223, and Yang notched an 8-over 224 in the event to tie for 11th.
Future Bulldog Hannah Levi also joined the action and competed in the AllState Sugarbowl Tommy Moore Memorial JCG. In the two-day event, she collected an 83 and 76. The 2018 signee finished tied for seventh playing in cold and windy conditions.
