#FromStateToSundays: Darius Slay Makes First Pro Bowl Appearance Sunday
January 26, 2018 | Football
ORLANDO – Darius Slay has been one of the NFL's most productive cornerbacks in his five seasons and the former Mississippi State standout is receiving some much deserved national recognition.
Slay will make his first career Pro Bowl appearance when the NFC takes on the AFC at 2 p.m. CT Sunday live on ESPN from Orlando's Camping World Stadium.
Slay is the 13th all-time Bulldog to be selected to the Pro Bowl. Defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was also tabbed to make his third straight Pro Bowl appearance but all Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots players will not play in the game as they prepare for next weekend's Super Bowl LII.
Slay's fifth season with the Detroit Lions was the best of his career as he led the NFL in interceptions with eight. His two individual goals entering the year were earning All-Pro honors and reaching the Pro Bowl for the first time. He did both.
Slay played two seasons for the Bulldogs, amassing 64 tackles and six interceptions from 2011-12. The Brunswick, Ga., native led the SEC in interceptions in 2012 with five.
Last season, the Bulldogs produced a program-best three Pro Bowlers. Mississippi State has produced back-to-back seasons of multiple Pro Bowl selections for the first time in program history.
